Events from June 2011
In June we had 4 troop events to close out the year.
First was the troop picnic on June 15th at Hoyt Farm and sadly this was the last event attended by out unit commissioner and friend Doug McKay who passed away suddenly less that two days later on June 17th.
The food was good and even the older boys had fun letting loose and just “playing”.
On June 17th we joined Pack 340 at Little Africa for their end of year picnic. The following scouts came to help out and develop bonds with Pack 340:
- Weston Y. (Den Chief)
- Erik S.
- Joseph M.
- Brian G.
- James B.
- Robert P.
At 4:00 pm the sky was blue and it was a beautiful day at the beach for a picnic.
But then it got dark with clouds a Troop 301 stepped in to add light with our lanterns.
The rains came and the cubs got wet but not their spirits. It was clear that Weston has made a bond with the Pack (both boys and adults) in his leadership role as Den Chief.
Mrs. Peters handed out awards to the boys and everyone seemed not to mind the weather.
Then wome praise for the adults…
…..and it was off to the sweets!
Thank you scouts for your service time.

The next day, June 18th was the annual fishing trip out of Port Jefferson.
The weather was great and I understand the fishing was better than expected.

Lastly was the annual planning meeting at Little Africa.
First, the Patrol leaders from each patrol were able to voice their patrol’s opinions and votes for what trails to hike and campsites to visit.
Then it was time for another team building game run by Mr. Tokarski.
In this game, each of the groups was give a pile of LEGOS to build a bridge.
Some worked together totally as a team as the above grout did.
Some were the picture of engineering skills and innovation like below.
An then the group that felt the only good bridge is one that makes money and divided up the tasks so one made the bridge, another the toll booth and another maintainence equipment for it.
Then it was back to the program review for the year and the specifics of planning September and October troop meetings.
Next was the last game and it was to build a structure that would protect a raw egg from impact.
Wrapping the egg in a ton of newspaper was one plan.
…..and then it was time for the acid test.
Was is successful?
Then it was time for the scouts to follow the 13th point of the scout law – A Scout is Alway HUNGRY!
And that was the scout year for 2010-11
