Pasta Night and Awards March 8th – Parents to bring a dish.

Troop 301,

March 8th is our annual pasta dinner and AWARDS night.

We need parents attending to bring a 1/2 tray of  meat dishes, chicken dishes, pastas or bread to share.

Scouts doing setup should be at the church by 4:30 pm

Parents and Family arrive with “HOT” food about 5:45 pm

Any food that needs to be eaten hot needs to arrive HOT as we only have sterno trays to “keep” it warm and no way to heat or cook it. We are NOT supposed to be using the church kitchen.

Dinner is at 6:00 pm.

Committee members to bring deserts to share.

Please E-mail/contact Mrs. Dodd at dit1028@0ptonline.net with questions.

Scouts will receive their merit badges earned since October so long as the blue cards are received by Mrs. Bauer by Saturday March 3rd.

Washington D.C. trip CHANGES. We did not get enough signup for the bus

We have an important change of plans for the upcoming Washington DC trip:

There were not enough people signed up to make a bus trip feasible. So we need to drive.

We have been able to secure a cabin at the BSA National Capitol Area Council’s Camp William B. Snyder which is in Haymarket, VA for the same weekend. The cabin accommodates a maximum of 34 people, but unfortunately we cannot accommodate families in the cabin. While families are still welcomed to join the troop touring the monuments and museums, individual families will need to make arrangements for their own overnight accommodations. There are a number of hotels within 10 miles of Haymarket, VA advertising at $60 per night and up.

New plan:

· Friday 3/23 evening: Carpool to VA. We will stay overnight at Camp Wm. B. Snyder Friday night.

· Saturday 3/24: We will get a fresh start on DC. Parking near the National Mall can be a problem, so we may drive only to the Vienna Metro station (30 minutes from camp) and take the DC Metro directly to the Federal Triangle or Smithsonian stops to start our tour. We’ll leave downtown DC around 5 for the trip back to Camp WBS.

· Saturday 3/24 evening: We will spend the night in the Camp WBS cabin.

· Sunday 3/25: We set out to Dulles airport to tour the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center

· Sunday 3/25 afternoon: Carpool back to Saint James

More information will be available at the next troop meeting.

The Church needs our support 2/25 @ 6:30 pm, 2/26 @ 9:30 am and 2/26 @ Noon.

The St. James Lutheran Church not only charters Troop 301, but they provide us meeting locations for everything we do. We could not ask for a more gracious chartering organization. This weekend we get a chance to talk about what we do as a troop with the opportunities the church provides us.

We need 2 scouts in full class A uniform to represent the troop for a few minutes after each of this week’s services at the church. The scouts will be representatives the troop, answering questions and providing fliers to church members and prospective new scouts.

This is short notice, but we need scouts to commit to being at each of the church services this weekend. Specifically, on Saturday at 6:30 PM, on Sunday at 9:30 AM, and on Sunday at noon. Some adult supervision would be appreciated as well. We need only 2 or 3 scouts per service.

Please contact Mr. Bauer (584-7186) ASAP if you will attend. We need to confirm quickly.

West Hills SNOW update – Friday NO PROBLEM – Saturday you may have issues

All attending the West Hills campout,

There is SNOW forecast for late Friday night (light with maybe some rain). It is supposed to change to all snow and continue through mid-day Saturday with 1-3 inches.

This will be perfect for the TRACKING theme of the campout but not so great for those arriving late to the campoute (on Saturday morning).

If you arrive Friday as the campout is scheduled and you DO NOT have 4-wheel-drive, park in the lot off HIGHHOLD DRIVE. See picture below and click it to enlarge.

Walk down the trail and around the back of the building to pick up the trail again at the back left corner of the lawn.

The trail leads past a large open-sided to the right and ends at the dirt road at the bottom. Our site is just to the right on that dirt road (F2).

IF YOU ARE ARRIVING SATURDAY MORNING, DON’T EVEN ATTEMPT THE DIRT ACCESS ROAD NO MATTER IF YOU HAVE 4-WHEEL-DRIVE OR NOT. PARK AND WALK DOWN!

If conditions are poor for the hike, the boys may need to alter it to meet the program requirements.

See you all safe and sound. The boys will have a blast in the snow.
