UPDATED-Spring Camporee Overview (DON’T SHOW UP EARLY!)
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on April 12, 2010
Troop 301,
As it has been in recent years, the district has given us very little detail. What we were told is that they don’t want people showing up before the 6:00 pm check-in on Friday.
NOBODY SETS UP BEFORE THE TROOP! We are carrying everything in from the parking lot and we are NOT in our summer camp campsite.
The order the “stuff” comes into camp is TROOP – PATROL – PERSONAL. The SPL will tell you where to set up your tent!
Also be prepared for some showers as the weather forecast is not for bright and sunny at this point (hint: Poncho’s)
There is a “SOAP BOX RACE” which, as I remember it, is basically a home made wooden “Go-Cart” the rolls down hill.
Any and all wishing to do this please have fun but keep it safe and simple (low tech).
Below is the latest from the Benjamin Tallmadge web site on the Camporee. Read the rest of this entry »
Your Opinion Due at the APRIL 8th Meeting!
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on April 2, 2010
Scouts in Troop 301 (and parents),
In the past the troop uniform leaders have organized a second “summer camp” type activity in August (After Baiting Hollow Summer Camp).
Mr. Anello has done a trip to the Lake Placid area and the high peaks for about the last 4 years (and he may do it again this year in addition to the options in this post). Last year we also did one to Camp Minsi in the Poconos that many seemed to enjoy.
Mr. Tokarski has been nice enough to run around and get information on “OPTIONS” for this year.
We need to know your intrest in any of these so we can move forward or punt. This needs to be done very soon so act now to let us know if any of these are options you would attend (YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PARENT’S OK).
We will only pick ONE so this is like an election….VOTE NOW to your patrol leader.
The options being considered are below:
| Resica Falls | Camp Minsi | Bike Trip Down Lehigh River Gorge (Day Trip) | |
| Where in Pennsylvania | East Stroudsburg (near Bushkill Falls) | Pocono Pines | White Haven |
| Car Ride from Church | 3 hours | 3 hours | 3.5 hours |
| Dates | 11-15 August (Wed to Sun) | 7-10 August (Sat to Tuesday) | Any weekend in July or August |
| Camp Site Activites | Climbing (COPE), Pool, Boating or canoeing, Archery (during free periods) | Canoeing, Archery (we are on our own) | A Bike Ride – Thas it. |
| Camping Facility | Camp site (we use our tents) | Weytrex Cabin (Both sides sleep 35) | Day Trip – No camping |
| Fishing | Yes (catch and release) | Yes (catch and release) | No |
| Baseball Game | Yes | Yes | No |
| Bike Ride | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Camp Site Cost | $200 for 4 nights camping plus $25 per scout. Additional costs if we rent other facilities from camp like tubes for tubing the Delaware River. | $100 per night or $300 for the three nights. We can borrow canoes, archery at no cost. | None |
| Food Costs (estimate) | $40 for four days | $40 for four days | Bag Lunch from home and Pizza afterward: $10 per scout |
| Baseball Ticket | $10 | $10 | N/A |
| Bike Ride Cost | Assume $20 plus free pass. $45 without pass. | Assume $20 plus free pass. $45 without pass. | Assume $20 plus free pass. $45 without pass. |
| Estimate Cost per scout: | $105 to $125 | $90 to $115 | $30 to $55 |
| Good Points | New Place. Huge (4800 acres). Next to Delaware State Forest (100K acres). More facilities available to us. | Weytrex Cabin. Bunks, big inside for night and rain activity. Water, bathroom, shower, refrigerator in cabin. The camp is familiar and big for many things. | It is a fabulous bike ride! Family available to join us. |
| Bad Points | Camp is in session. Facilities available during free time only. More driving to ball game and bike ride. Extra costs. | Troop has been to Minsi often. Draining Lake after 7 August to fix dam; may affect swimming. | One Day trip (long drive home after 25 mile bike ride). |
Please review the list and VOTE. “I will not attend any” is an option as this is being done for YOU and is not a requirement but please consider these.
Mr. Bauer
