All Patrol Leaders.
I would like to meet with all of you to touch base on a couple of things:
- How have you been doing with the two meetings a month?
- How do you deal with scouts that don’t attend the patrol meetings?
- What is the rank status of everyone in your patrol and what are they missing toward 1st class and below?
- What are you responsible for in running the patrol and what are the patrol members responsible for?
- We know we always go to Baiting Hollow in the summer. The uniform leaders are looking at supporting another very local camp in the middle of May and a mid August campout within 200 miles of home and staying in the area of $100 per scout for everything. What is the patrols thoughts on this?
- Are your INSTRUCTORS attending patrol meetings and participating? They are “Teachers” and this is a leadership position. If they do not attend and do not participate, they WILL NOT be given leadership credit toward advancement or Eagle Palms. YOU MUST ENGAGE THEM AS PATROL LEADERS! This especially includes regular troop meetings.
Things to remember as your responsibilities:
- You are the voice of your patrol members so represent them well (especially at PLCs).
- It is also your responsibility, as the patrol leader, to ensure that every boy in your patrol “learns” all the scout skills up through 1st class and knows them well enough to “teach” them. Your patrol members are responsible to speak with leaders about their own advancement (and NOT their parents or you).
A Scout is LOYAL to his patrol and his Troop.
