All attending Tri-Mount,
The theme of this campout is ORIENTEERING and BACK PACKING COOKING.
As we will be doing map and compass, you will need to bring your compass. An “orienteering” compase would be best. They are the clear plastic ones with graduations along the sides and a big arrow off the long end. Wal-Mart likely has them fairly cheaply if you don’t still have yours from Cub Scouts.
Read the section in your handbook on Map and Compass. You also likely want to print out the map below.
We will be hiking the snow covered trails marked in pinkish purple (magenta) and may go up the mountain if conditions allow.
Remember to dress in layers, wear nylon ski shell pants or “gators” to avoid wet snow soaking your pants and HIKING BOOTS!
No sneakers and NO JEANS. Remember COTTON KILLS!
Snow shoes will make walking easier. If you have them, bring them.
Pack light as we will need to hike through deep snow from the First Aid Lodge to our camp over a 1/4 mile away.
Every boy should bring at lease two bottled waters or a 2 liter canteen for the hike.
Be Prepared!
Mr. Bauer
