IMPRORTANT: PLC Monday April 5th and NO MEETING April 1st
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 30, 2010
All,
Since Thursday April 1st is a scheduled day off from school, we will NOT be meeting (NO JOKE).
This means that there are no more meetings before the PLC (in the chuch youth center) and the SPL has handed out the agenda for that PLC to patrol leaders.
PATROL LEADERS: The week off sounds like a good time to get together with your patrols for a meeting. We will not be able to go over CAMP GADGETS at a regular meeting before the Camporee on the 16th thru 18th so this sounds like a good subject to cover at you PATROL MEETINGS.
April’s theme has been identified by your SPR as CITIZENSHIP.
Remember that the 15th is TAX day for the adults and DRUG AWARNESS for our regular meeting.
Other events for April are the SPRING CAMPOREE on the 16th – 18th and BOSTON BUS TRIP on the 24th.
BE PREPARED!
Mr. Bauer
IMPORTANT – Permission Slips for the Spring Camporee due by April 8th
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 25, 2010
All going on the Spring Camporee,
We have a new “new” permission slip. Please print that out and return it to Mr. Bindert (completely filled out and signed) at the April 8th meeting.
The premission slip can be downloaded from the “forms” tab on the website.
Be sure you have the person you are riding with filled out on the slip.
Mr. Bauer
Greetings from Tri-Mount Base Camp
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 24, 2010
All,
We had a lot of fun learning to use snow shoes, orienteering around the beautiful resevation and cooking. Congrats to the Panthers for winning the cooking contests and Happy Birthday to Grant. We celibrated with cupcakes cooked by the fire with a reflector oven.
The Axis an Allies game raged while others relaxed with a snowball fight to end the day.
The Lean-Tos had 4 bunks each and the camp was a good one. Read the rest of this entry »

March 25th Troop Meeting at St. James Plaza Nursing Home
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 24, 2010
Troop 301,
Remember, we will NOT be meeting at the church this Thursday for our regular meeting as the Church needs to use their area.
We will be helping the community by visiting the St. James Plaza Nursing Home at the end of Woodlawn Ave. (kind of) across from Millspond Elem. It is the one closest to the park.
Meeting time is 7:00 pm (this was verifiied at the Wednesday night Committee meeting).
Full Class A’s!
A Scout is Friendly and a Scout is Kind.

ORIENTEERING COMPASS NEEDED FOR TRI-MOUNT
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 16, 2010
All attending Tri-Mount,
The theme of this campout is ORIENTEERING and BACK PACKING COOKING.
As we will be doing map and compass, you will need to bring your compass. An “orienteering” compase would be best. They are the clear plastic ones with graduations along the sides and a big arrow off the long end. Wal-Mart likely has them fairly cheaply if you don’t still have yours from Cub Scouts.
Read the section in your handbook on Map and Compass. You also likely want to print out the map below. Read the rest of this entry »
IMPORTANT! Adults attending Tri-Mount (Read)
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 14, 2010
All adults attending Tri-Mount or will be joining the troop on any campouts in the future MUST BE TRAINED in BSA Youth Protection.
This means that you need to go to http://www.scouting.org/ and click on the “Need to Create a Log In? Start here” link.
Create an account using an e-mail address that is not used by another member of your family for Boy Scout training. BSA tracks by this e-mail address.
Once you are in, click on “E-LEARNING” along the left side.
Under “BASIC TRAINING”, select “Youth Protection Training”.
After completing and passing the class (about 20 min.) print out the certificate and give a copy of it to Mr. McGarry.
This is TOTALLY FREE!
Please also take “This is Scouting” as this will help you understand how Boy Scouts is different from Cub Scouts and what is means to be a “Boy Lead Troop”.
Please turn in all the certificates at the March 18th meeting.
BOYS READING THIS TELL YOUR PARENTS!
A Scout is HELPFUL.

Patrol Leader Meeting Thursday March 18th at 6:45 PM at the Church
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 13, 2010
- How have you been doing with the two meetings a month?
- How do you deal with scouts that don’t attend the patrol meetings?
- What is the rank status of everyone in your patrol and what are they missing toward 1st class and below?
- What are you responsible for in running the patrol and what are the patrol members responsible for?
- We know we always go to Baiting Hollow in the summer. The uniform leaders are looking at supporting another very local camp in the middle of May and a mid August campout within 200 miles of home and staying in the area of $100 per scout for everything. What is the patrols thoughts on this?
- Are your INSTRUCTORS attending patrol meetings and participating? They are “Teachers” and this is a leadership position. If they do not attend and do not participate, they WILL NOT be given leadership credit toward advancement or Eagle Palms. YOU MUST ENGAGE THEM AS PATROL LEADERS! This especially includes regular troop meetings.
- You are the voice of your patrol members so represent them well (especially at PLCs).
- It is also your responsibility, as the patrol leader, to ensure that every boy in your patrol “learns” all the scout skills up through 1st class and knows them well enough to “teach” them. Your patrol members are responsible to speak with leaders about their own advancement (and NOT their parents or you).
(Updated) Tri-Mount Campout – Don’t count on having a campfire
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 7, 2010
Troop 301,
With the snow at Tri-Mount, fire wood will be limited to non-existant. We CAN NOT bring it from home.
Firewood and Invasive Insects
Don’t Move Firewood – You Could be Killing Our Trees!
FIREWOOD ALERT – “DON’T MOVE FIREWOOD”
A NEW REGULATION is now in effect that prohibits the import of firewood into New York unless it has been heat treated to kill pests. The regulation also limits the transportation of untreated firewood to less than 50 miles from its source.
We will be camping in the DELAWARE campsite.
The road is only cleared of snow as far as the “First Aid Lodge”. This means that you will need to lug everything you bring through deep snow for over a 1/4 mile.
Snow shoes will help! The camp only has a limited supply so if you have them, bring them.
Sleds will also help drag in equipment and supplies.
We have (10) 4-man Lean-Tos with 15 adults and 29 boys currently on the list to fill them. Some will be tenting (including most likely me).
Agenda was available at the pasta dinner and will also be available at the meeting on the 18th.
Plan for a lot of snow and maybe some mud. “Gators” are suggested (water resistant leggings) or nylon ski shells over uniform pants (no jeans or cotten)
Think of this as a WINTER backpacking HIKE and pack accordingly.
BE PREPARED
Mr. Bauer
BOSTON BUS TRIP IS FULL!
Posted by dmbauer in Announcements on March 5, 2010
All,
All 55 seats on the bus are now full and paid for.
Those wishing to still go can be put on a wait list (in case someone needs to drop out) or arrange to get up to Boston yourself and meet us on the Freedom Trail route.
We will NOT be able to hold the troop back to wait for those not on the bus.
Please keep in mind the the Spring camporee which will actually give the boys that attend “camping” credit, Boston will not.
Mr. Bauer
