Full Class A uniforms…You are representing the Troop so act like a scout.

Sunday, March 21st

We have been assigned the Gaynor Park side of Northern Blvd. to line up.

They want us there at 11:40 AM.

They will be closing the roads at Noon so you better not be later than that!

Mr. McGarry reports the following:

Hi, the Church has asked us to handle the soup and salad dinner on Wed, March 3rd.  Yes, this is the day before our Pasta dinner.  Volunteers?

Mr. Bauer, We’ll need some scout volunteers to serve.

Please contact Mrs. Dodd as she will be coordinating this event to help the Church.

We have 14 boys volunteered. Please be at the church by 4:45 PM but coordinate with Mrs. Dodd.

Mrs. Dodd e-mailed:

“Mr. McGarry would like the scout to arrive not later than 4:45 in full, Class A uniforms.

Thanks!”

A scout is HELPFUL.

Merit Badges and Blue Cards (How to)

Troop,

It seems we, as a troop, have not been doing a great job with Merit Badges and Blue Cards.

I found a document that explains proper BLUE CARD instructions.

It is found on the “merit badge” tab of this site as well as the “forms” tab or clicking “BLUE CARD” above.

Important things to remember are that that blue cards should be given out only by uniformed leaders and they need to know which merit badge it is for.

Not all merit badges are appropriate for all age scouts. Many EAGLE required badges need prerequisites (like Camping) or reaching a maturity level (many, but Family Life specifically).  A Merit Badge counselor is NOT required to do a badge with you if he/she feels you are not ready for it. Uniform leaders also have the same right of refusal.

Merit Badges should NOT be a priority for boys until they have reached 1st class rank!  Boys not 1st class need to concentrate on honing their scout skills and knowing all the requirements for all ranks through 1st class COLD!

If fact, until relatively recently, BSA did NOT let boys below 2nd class even earn Merit Badges at all.

Please only turn in blue cards or seek signatures on them just prior to or after a troop meeting (unless directed otherwise by those adults involved with that blue card).

This applies with advancement forms as well.

If you want to do a merit badge, a “scout” should personally ask a uniform leader for the blue card and fill out the front face at that time.

The scout should then “personally” contact the merit badge counselor of his choice to do that badge.

Once completed, the three SIGNATURE dates on the back side of the blue card should match and represent the date the merit badge is completed.

You should have TWO merit badge counselor signatures and one UNIFORM leader’s signature on this side. This uniform leader should be a different leader than signed the front.

Please follow this process and read the instruction document. …A scout is OBEDIENT.

IMPORTANT: For all adults who “will have direct contact with scouts”

This applies to all Uniformed Leaders, Committee members and parents that will be attending camping events with scouts.

Starting in 2011, ALL must be trained!

BSA requires “appropriate” training for all adults that will have direct contact with the boys.

For parents, this means that if they are to attend a campout, they must be trained in BSA YOUTH PROTECTION. Read the rest of this entry »

Scout Sunday was a good turnout…Thanks

Sunday February 7th 2010 was a beautiful but cold day and Troop 301 surprised the Pastor with many more scouts than was expected by the church.

Thank you to the boys and adults for showing your support and Scout Spirit!

IMPORTANT – Pasta Dinner – Mini Court of Honor (Advancements)

Troop 301,

March 4th is our annual pasta dinner.

Boys doing setup should be at the church around 4:30 pm

Parents and Family arrive with “HOT” food about 6:00 pm to 6:15 pm

Any food that needs to be eaten hot needs to arrive HOT as we only have sterno trays to “keep” it warm and no way to heat or cook it. We are NOT supposed to be using the church kitchen.

Dinner is at 6:30 pm.

Please E-mail/contact Mrs. Donahue at kbspouse@aol.com  with volunteers to bring meat dishes, chicken dishes, pastas, salad and bread.

She needs this well in advance so she can plan what equipment we need setup and so we don’t have 14 Ziti dishes and 4,000 brownies with no other variety.

IT IS THE LAST MINUTE NOW!…contact Mrs. Donahue

Thank You,

Mr. Bauer
